Ozplays Director, Scott Alderdice negotiated a professional career as an Artistic Director (Riverina Theatre Company), theatre director, writer and company director, before joining the staff of the University of Southern Queensland (Toowoomba) Theatre Program in 1998. In his 23 years at USQ Scott directed more than fifty productions, wrote and directed twenty plus plays and cabarets and produced and/or directed graduate show-reels for more than a decade. With then head of Stage-management, Stafford Mortenson, Scott co-founded and was Artistic Director of the USQ Shakespeare in the Park Festival which played to nightly audiences of between 400 - 1100 people in central park performance seasons in Toowoomba, Fraser Coast and Springfield from 2004 through 2015. For the Festival, Scott directed productions of Hamlet, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, Richard 111, A Midsummer Night's Dream, King Lear and Othello. Video material from two of those productions feature on this website.  As a part of his professional fascination for Clown, Scott has written clown versions of Romeo & Juliet - Clown Verona (2005) The Tempest - Tempest in a Teacup (2009); and Hamlet - Hamnet Isn't Happy (2016) He has also written Hearthstone (2016), Smack (2016), Fire (2017) and Once in Verona (2017). He has also written more than 30 'action essays' dealing with curricular aspects of Shakespeare's plays. Throughout his time at USQ Scott has been fortunate enough to have worked with more than 600 highly gifted and committed young aspiring artists, administrators, production personnel, community arts workers, teachers and creative entrepreneurs. Their endeavour, their belief and view of the future, their enthusiasm for learning and for making a difference through creative arts practice, has been a privilege and an unending inspiration. 

Kate  Murphy

Company Co-Producer Kate Murphy, is a passionate workshop facilitator and successful actor. Kate has worked with young people for over ten years for various theatre companies over the country. 

 

She has worked at the University of Southern Queensland directing student productions including Shakespeare in the Parks’ Much Ado About Nothing and The Cherry Orchard.  She also taught both acting and theatre making classes for many years. 

Kate is also an international voice over artist, voicing tracks for Sesame Street, Shopkins and more recently one of the leads in the feature film The Wishmas Tree. She was also Voice Director for Space Chickens In Space, airing on Channel 9. 

Kate has also worked extensively as a workshop facilitator sharing her passion for theatre and creative learning with her students. She works at the Sydney Opera House as part of the the Creative Play team and is currently a drama facilitator with Marian Street Theatre for Young People. She co-directed the Being Heard Project in 2018, a large community event in Ipswich in partnership with the Domestic Violence Action Centre. There were over 100 students performing original work.
