PLAY WITH VIDEO

The PLAY WITH VIDEO Workshop Program sets out to make our own video in just three days. On the first day participants learn the basic skills in acting, character development and scene performance for camera. On the second day participants are introduced to the principles of story building and will construct their own signposted video story . And on the final day they get to video record that story ready for post-production. This workshop program is suitable for ages 12 plus. No previous experience in acting or performance is necessary. 

This workshop program will be offered twice. The first round is on Wednesday 10 Thursday 11th & Friday 12th January from 10:00am - 4:30pm each day. The second round will be on  Wednesday 17 , Thursday 18th & Friday 19th January from 10:00am - 4:30pm each day.  Participants may choose to enrol in one or both of the workshop rounds.

Round One: Acting for Camera

Acting Rehearsal

Day One: Getting to Know Acting

Wednesday 10 January 10:00am - 4:30pm

The first day involves a fun series of games and exercises which allows participants to learn the basic skills of text and character acting. Suitable for ages 12 and above. No experience necessary. You finish the day being cast in a scene .

Day Two: The Rehearsal Process

Thursday 11 January 10:00am - 4:30pm

In this exciting second day participants learn a whole range of exciting new approaches and techniques used by professional actors for rehearsing their scene and character. Getting ready for your shoot.

Day Three: Shooting Your Video and putting it together

Friday 12 January 10:00am - 4:30pm

The final day sees participants engage in a process of shooting their scenes and then moving on to put the clips together in a post-production process.  

Round Two: Making Your Own Video Story

 Wednesday 17, Thursday 18 & Friday 19 January

All classes run from 10:00am - 4:30pm each day.

In this awesome round of classes participants will learn the basics of telling visual stories with their mobile phone cameras. Of building a narrative, suspense and style with their shot and edit choices. And of constructing an entertaining video story for an intended audience. 

Day Two focuses on choosing your subject or your story. Formulating a storyboard and problem-solving how you are going to conduct your shoot.

And Day Three is the shoot and post-production.

Of course, we will help you make wise and responsible choices.

Our Video and Acting Teacher

Shideh Faramand

Shideh Faramand is an award-winning writer, director and actor, having written and directed over half a dozen shorts. Her standout short films  ‘A Reluctant Bride’ and ‘Amalia Lucia Gomez is Gluten Intolerant’ have screened at prestigious film festivals to audiences across Australia, North America and Europe, and broadcast on national television in Sweden and Romania. In 2016, Shideh had the honour of becoming one of Screen Australia’s Gender Matters recipients’ for the development of her debut feature film Sheeda, with producer Kirsty Stark of Epic Films. She is currently developing several short form, feature and television projects and is an active member of Film Fatales, the Australian Directors Guild, and Women in Film and Television. As a first generation Australian/Iranian, Shideh’s strengths and passions lie in diverse stories, which reflect the ever-changing face of Australia, with a key focus on female driven characters.

PARTICIPANTS NEED TO BRING: Loose and comfortable clothing in which you can engage in robust games and activities. Bring your own NUT FREE snacks and lunch and plenty of water to keep hydrated. 

This workshop series adheres to Safe Child protocols of practice. Please feel free to discuss with Shideh any considerations you need to share prior to the commencement of the workshop activities or at any time throughout. 

It is best if you are able to attend all of each of the three days of the workshops.

If this is not possible please discuss this with either Scott or Shideh at any time prior or during the workshop process.
